Importance of mental wellness

According to a survey carried out by the Indian Psychiatry Society, there was a 20% rise in the number of cases of mental illness at the end of March 2020. Since then, things have become much worse. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.
Trauma responses can look like this:-
1. Craving control
2. Feeling responsible for other’s happiness
3. Agreeing to things just to keep the peace
4. Saying yes because you are scared of losing security
5. Feeling on guard all the time
6. Chronic feeling of emptiness
7. A negative worldview, dwindling trust for others.
8. Seeking constant escapism
9. Giving in to reckless impulses not caring for personal safety
How to overcome
1. Noticing the sign in yourself – – signs that may say things are not going well and depresses you. Signs may include feeling down, unable to enjoy yourself, constantly anxious, irritable, and oversensitive or physical symptoms such as over/under eating, struggling to fall asleep or get out of bed in the morning, exhaustion or restlessness, and panic attacks amongst many others.
2. Talk to someone : Someone suffering from mental illness won’t talk to anyone even a closest friend or family member as it feels like one of the most difficult things to do. Letting someone know that you’re not okay can actually be such a big relief as you won’t have to hide how you are feeling from that person, you can just be yourself with them
3. Routine - : having a set and busy routine can be really helpful as it gives a less ideal mind that will think negatively which results in mood swings and anxiety. Going to sleep and waking up at the same time each day sets your body clock, allowing you to feel slightly less tired during the day, going for a walk, or playing around is a great way to relieve stress.
4. Thought journal : Keeping a thought journal will not only help you to track your mood but also will give you a salutary way to express yourself without judgment
5. Contact any counselling service –counselling services are provided in schools, colleges, and also by many NGOs, so we just need to approach them without any hesitation as they would not prejudice and will listen.
