Don’t let the failure bring you down
“So, Tell us something about yourself.”
“Yes, my name is Tushar Walia. I’m a student. I am a graduate from Delhi University. I love listening
to music and…..”
“Thank you Tushar. We’ll call you.”
“So, I get this job sir….”
“You are a good candidate Tushar. We will call you.”
Tushar gets up, greets the interviewer, turns around to leave the room and hears muffled laughters
behind his back. He knows that again he is going to be rejected.
But what happened? He practised the answer to “Tell me something about yourself” a lot. He gave two
mock interviews to his English trainer. His trainer told him that he was confidently speaking in
English and that, he had improved a lot in the last 3 months.
Where did he go wrong ?
Was there something wrong with his revision?
This was the third interview he had taken. And, everyone rejected him.
Should I call my trainer and ask for some more extra classes?
No, leave it. May be, there is something wrong with me. I am good for nothing. Yeah, it’s me. I’m not
studious. I am not obedient. Dad says that. Mom thinks like that. Oh! The world is not a place for
me…..
Do you identify yourself with Tushar? Do you feel more or less like him? If yes, well, you are not
the only one. You have done a language course, participated in all the activities and you were
speaking well in the institute.
But now, you are not getting the job.
What went wrong? Well, the answer is NOTHING. Nothing went wrong. What you are going through is a
process. The same that turns a pupa into a butterfly. The one that turns a bud into a blooming
flower, and the one where a hatchling has come out from its shell and its body is trying to get
accustomed to the world around - Struggle to adapt is the part of the nature.
It’s that wriggling and pushing out that makes the tiny one strong and stronger. Turns it into a
tougher one - the one that stands up to every blow surely going to come across throughout its life,
till its last breath.
The institute, the training, the participation – all of it was a part of a process that was preparing
you to come out of your egg, readying you to go out there and face the hardships of life.
With each passing failure, you will become stronger and your nerves will turn into steel.
Most of the successful people had to taste failures many times before they finally made it. Amitabh
Bachchan gave an audition for a Radio Announcer and he was rejected by the selectors with a note
that he had a weird and unsuitable voice. His voice is one of the traits he is known for today in
Bollywood. Walt Disney was fired from his job as a cartoonist because the newspaper he worked for
thought he lacked imagination. Later, his cartoon characters made name all over the world. The
chicken recipe prepared by the KFC owner was rejected more than 50 times before he finally started
his own business and built an empire.
Of course, you will remember success and victories, however, you will equally cherish those times of
your life when you fell and stood again to fight back. So, once you make it there and, surely, you
will, you will look back and be full of pride and honour and rejoice that you are one hell of a
traveller.
