Here are 3 Grammar Mistakes even Experts Make!. Learn them right and you will sound advanced in English.
1. Article Error The confusion between the usage of ‘a’ and ‘an’ is a never ending saga!Whether it is a MLA or an MLA? The rule which most of us have been following is looking for vowels (a, e, i, o, u). But the correct rule is looking for vowel SOUNDS, and not just vowels! MLA begins with the consonant M but the M sound is E-M, which makes it a vowel sound. So it’s an MLA. A European country (sound is yau- vowel sound) Not an European country
2. Plural Nouns Error Can you give me a scissors? I have a blue jeans. We often use these, don’t we? Nouns like scissors, jeans, trousers, pants, headphones, glasses are always plural, so we can’t use ‘a’ before them. Since they exist in pairs, we use ‘a pair of …’ with them. Few examples:
My glasses are dirty. Her trousers are hanging outside. I need a pair of scissors.
3. Pronoun Error There is often confusion with the usage of Subjective Pronouns and Objective Pronouns.
He is taller than me. (Incorrect) He is taller than I (am). (Correct)The simple rule is subjective pronouns are compared with Subjective Pronouns only. Here ‘me’ is an objective pronoun and ‘I’ is a Subjective Pronoun. More examples: She is smarter than he (is). (Correct) She is smarter than him. (Incorrect)They are wealthier than we (are). (Correct) They are wealthier than us. (Incorrect)
